The Most Useless Machine

First, let me start by saying that the idea was not mine at all, and the instructions can be found over at Instructables!

Ever since the email from Instructables, I’ve thought this was a cool and fun project. The circuit isn’t too complicated, and since I don’t have a whole lot to do on my motor controller until i get some diodes, I figured this would make a good little project to keep me busy in the mean time!

Some little "mods" to the project that I’ve done are instead of using hinges and an arm to swing out and flick the switch back, I’m using a strong magnet mounted to the servo arm, and a fairly large ball bearing to hit the switch. Besides that, the general concept is still the same; flip the switch, servo arm moves the ball bearing, and turns the switch off, pulling back the servo arm/ball bearing.

Right now i have to find something that does a better job of turning the switch off; I’m using a big red button with the ball bearing glued underneath, but it doesn’t ride smooth, so it frequently just rides above the switch doing nothing to it. I think I’ve come up with a solution, however i won’t know until i play around with it a little more!

I did HAVE pictures to post here, but my friend’s camera (thanks a ton!!) has a wonky SD card, and it wouldn’t recognize in my computer, so I had to format it :( I'll take pictured next time so you can see the product in its final stages.
